Background

As a research leader, I played a pivotal role in establishing the Joint Advanced Research Programme (JASRP) between the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the University of Pune. The objective of JASRP was to foster innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing between academia and defense research institutions.

Challenges

1. Aligning Research Interests and Objectives: Ensuring that research interests and objectives of DRDO and the University of Pune were aligned and complementary.

2. Developing a Joint Research Framework: Creating a joint research framework that facilitated collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing between researchers from academia and defense institutions.

3. Managing Intellectual Property and Confidentiality: Establishing protocols for managing intellectual property and confidentiality, ensuring that sensitive research information was protected.

Strategy and Implementation

1. Conducted Stakeholder Engagement and Analysis: Engaged with stakeholders from DRDO and the University of Pune to understand their research interests, objectives, and capabilities.

2. Developed a Joint Research Roadmap: Created a joint research roadmap that outlined research priorities, objectives, and timelines, ensuring alignment with national defence and security goals.

3. Established Joint Research Teams and Governance Structure: Constituted joint research teams comprising researchers from academia and defense institutions, and established a governance structure to oversee programs management and decision-making.

4. Facilitated Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Building: Organized workshops, seminars, and training programs to facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building among researchers from academia and defense institutions.
